A Gandhinagar one day itinerary from Hotel Kalash can pair a morning visit to Swaminarayan Akshardham with an afternoon at Indroda Nature Park. If you want a shorter outdoor stop, Punit Van is an alternative; both parks are reachable by car from the hotel.

  • Akshardham: open Tuesday through Sunday; mandir entry and darshan are free.
  • Indroda Nature Park: in Sector 7, about 3 km from Gandhinagar city centre.
  • From the hotel, Indroda Nature Park is about 27 minutes by car.
  • From the hotel, Punit Van is about 15 minutes by car.

Choose your stops around opening days, then plan the route. Gandhinagar city centre is about 5 minutes by car from the hotel, while Sector-16 station is about 10 minutes on foot or 5 minutes by car. For flights, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is about 81 minutes by car from the hotel.

Akshardham and Indroda Nature Park are both closed on Mondays, so avoid building a Monday plan around them. Hours and entry details can change; check the official site before you go.

Morning at Akshardham

Morning at Akshardham

Start at Swaminarayan Akshardham in Sector 20, ‘J’ Road, and allow time for security screening before entering. The mandir complex and darshan are free, with no prior appointment required. Mandir darshan runs from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm, and arti is at 10:00 am and 6:30 pm.

If you want to see the exhibitions, ticket sales run from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm. Tickets include all five exhibitions and cost ₹60 for adults aged 11 and over, ₹40 for children aged 3–11, and nothing for children below age 3.

The complex also lists a water show after sunset, with the visitor page giving 7:30 pm as its show time.

Security includes metal detectors and frisking; vehicles are searched too. Clothing must cover the shoulders, chest, navel and upper arms, with lower clothing reaching at least below the knees.

A sarong is available for a refundable ₹300 deposit if needed. Free wheelchairs are available at the entrance after security clearance for physically challenged, elderly and needy visitors. Premvati Food Court serves vegetarian food and snacks.

Afternoon at Indroda Nature Park

Afternoon at Indroda Nature Park

Set aside the afternoon for Indroda Nature Park if you want a larger outdoor stop after Akshardham. The park covers about 400 hectares on both banks of the Sabarmati River and is run by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation (GEER).

Its attractions include a zoo, dinosaur fossils and skeletons, a botanical garden, an interpretation centre, an amphitheatre, camping facilities and a Wilderness Park. The Incredible India listing gives the park’s hours as 8:00 am–7:00 pm and says it is closed on Mondays. It places the park in Sector 7, about 3 km from Gandhinagar city centre.

The drive from the hotel to Indroda Nature Park takes about 27 minutes. For more detail on planning a visit, read the Indroda Nature Park visitor guide.

A shorter alternative at Punit Van

A shorter alternative at Punit Van

Choose Punit Van instead of Indroda Nature Park for a shorter park outing: the drive from the hotel takes about 15 minutes, compared with about 27 minutes to Indroda. Punit Van is about 40 minutes on foot from the hotel.

This makes Punit Van the simpler swap if you want to keep the day focused on Akshardham and add an outdoor stop. Indroda offers a zoo, fossils, a botanical garden and a Wilderness Park.

Transport, timing and meal breaks

For a day that includes both Akshardham and Indroda, go to Akshardham first, then continue to Indroda for the afternoon. If you choose Punit Van instead, the shorter drive leaves more flexibility in how you arrange the day. Akshardham has a vegetarian food court serving meals and snacks.

Gandhinagar Capital Station is about 3 km from Indroda Nature Park, while Ahmedabad Junction is about 22 km away. Guest rooms offered here are available to book.
